The show features computer-generated imagery/computer graphics of astronomical objects in the universe and interviews with experts who study in the fields of cosmology, astronomy, and astrophysics. The first season primarly focused on the formation, study, and creation of the solar system including its eight planets, which began on May 29, 2007 and ended on September 17, 2007 and consisted of 14 episodes. The second season which breached further into theories and unexplained mysteries within the universe began on November 27, 2007 and consisted of 18 episodes. A third season, now currently airing on the History Channel (Tuesday at 9:00pm EST & PCT) began on November 11, 2008. The first season of The Universe was released on DVD on November 17, 2007 and blu-ray on November 18, 2008. Season 2 was released on DVD on October 14, 2008.
